Tobacco Industry "Prevention" Programs

A list of Big Tobacco’s dirty tricks wouldn’t be complete without mentioning one of the most visible and hypocritical tobacco industry strategies, their very own prevention programs. The programs are intended to give the illusion that the tobacco companies are doing something to solve the problem that they themselves have created. These programs fall loosely into two categories: youth access programs and educational programs. The most disturbing aspect of these programs is that many businesses and individuals believe that tobacco companies are being good corporate citizens.
