Mississippi Economic Data

In October 2012, a study examining the impact of smokefree air ordinances on tax revenue in more than 60 Mississippi communities was published in the Journal of the Mississippi State Medical Association. The study concluded that, "No evidence was found that smoke-free ordinances have an adverse effect on the local restaurant industry. Results from the descriptive analysis indicated that many communities experienced an increase in revenue following implementation of a smoke-free ordinance, and the average change in revenue was a 10 percent increase."
